Located on the west end of Charlottesville’s Historic Downtown Mall, The CODE (Center of Developing Entrepreneurs) building is a unique mixed-use retail and office urban infill development. The seven-story building features Class A office space, a courtyard, an amphitheater, and a 200-seat auditorium with a cascade of green roof terraces that provide outdoor workspaces.

The building aims to support the local business economy by providing an innovative and collaborative space for the Charlottesville startup and entrepreneurial community that serves a diverse group of entrepreneurially minded business professionals.

Timmons Group worked with EskewDumezRipple, Wolf Ackerman, Gregg Bleam Landscape Architect, and Hourigan to provide utility, stormwater, pedestrian infrastructure design, and survey services for the project. The design of the terraced green roof system helped contribute to the building’s LEED Gold Certification and the project’s overall sustainability goals.

The American Institute of Architects awarded the prestigious National AIA Design Award for Architecture to the CODE building. The building is one of 15 projects to receive this award, which recognizes contemporary architecture and highlights the various ways buildings and spaces can improve our lives. The CODE Building also received the Commercial Large Scale Award of Honor from AIA New Orleans.
