Timmons Group served as co-lead, with 3North, for the design and engineering of the Brown’s Island Improvements, a transformative $30 million initiative that reimagines one of Richmond’s most iconic riverfront destinations. The project builds upon the vision established by Venture Richmond and 3north to enhance Brown’s Island as a premier civic open space, event venue, and recreational destination while strengthening its connection to the James River.

Working collaboratively with landscape architects, architects, engineers, and environmental specialists, Timmons Group developed a comprehensive landscape plan that balances visitor experience, accessibility, and ecological stewardship. The team’s responsibilities included site design, site engineering and stormwater improvements, lighting, irrigation, soil enhancement strategies, and the development of an invasive species management plan to restore native plant communities and improve habitat value.

Planned improvements include enhanced riverfront access, ADA-accessible pathways, expanded gathering spaces, interactive play areas, public art, shade amenities, and environmental enhancements that support the island’s long-term resilience while accommodating major community events.
