River Mill, a master planned new home community in Glen Allen being built by HHHunt, recently was named Community of the Year by the Home Builders Association of Virginia. The award was presented at HBAV’s 2021 Annual Conference June 26. The award recognizes a community’s overall neighborhood design, unique design features, implementation and creativity of the marketing plan, effectiveness and continuity of marketing phases, overall quality of presentation and overall sales success.

The state Commonwealth Transportation Board approved a $787,223 grant at their June 23 meeting to pay for the main entrance and roadway into the property, located near Exit 148 on Interstate 64. The funds will also be used to pave a five-foot-wide shoulder on each side of Shannon Hill Road between the interstate and the business park, and to widen travel lanes to 12 feet. In addition, the roadway will get full-depth pavement.

3North Architects partnered with the James River Association, Timmons Group, the City of Richmond, and Groundwork RVA to design and implement a “green street” to improve walkability and add green infrastructure to a 1/2 mile stretch of roadway in Richmond’s Bellemeade neighborhood.

On a busy night with a packed agenda, the Richmond City Council on Monday signed off on several development projects and formally gave city residents the ultimate say on the future of a proposed Southside casino. The council voted to put a referendum on the Nov. 2 ballot, through which city residents will decide whether to grant a casino license to Urban One.

I-66 Express Mobility Partners has begun work on its administrative and maintenance complex at 7450 Century Park Drive in Manassas. Scheduled to open in 2022, the complex will provide traffic management, emergency response coordination, maintenance and snow removal for the I-66 Express Lanes under construction from Gainesville to the Capital Beltway. The Express Lanes are scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2022.

A new federal agreement that aims to speed up review of offshore wind projects in federal waters will initially focus on the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project being developed by Dominion Energy off the coast of Virginia Beach and the Kitty Hawk project off North Carolina.

Richmond City Council on Monday voted 8-1 for a casino referendum to appear on the city’s Nov. 2 ballot. If passed by city voters, the proposed $600 million ONE Casino + Resort would be the only casino under Black ownership in the country.
