Investing in Our People: The Timmons Group Project Management Development Program

Across the AEC industry, project managers are essential to exceptional client service, strong team performance, and long-term business success, yet development in this role often falls to informal, on-the-job learning.

At Timmons Group, we take a more intentional approach with our a comprehensive Project Management Development Program, which is designed to strengthen project management capabilities and create a clear pathway for continued growth.

The program goes beyond traditional training by combining learning experiences, practical tools, leadership alignment, and business education to support project managers at every stage of their development.

Building Practical Skills

At the core of the program is a series of virtual training sessions for beginning and intermediate project managers. Focused on building practical skills in project management, scope and stakeholder management, budgeting, scheduling, planning, tracking, communication, and closeout.

Participants also complete an assessment designed specifically for AEC project managers to help them understand their individual strengths and apply them in their roles. Each session pairs discussion with practical exercises and tools participants can put to use immediately on real projects.

Aligning Leadership

To support consistency across the organization, a dedicated session for senior project managers and group leaders, giving leadership a shared understanding of project management expectations and equipping them to better support developing project managers on their teams.

Expanding Resources

To support ongoing growth, we’re also building a central library of templates and tools project managers can draw on throughout each phase of a project, an optional resource meant to complement existing processes.

Understanding the Business

Strong project managers understand how their decisions affect the business as a whole. Looking ahead, we’ll introduce a new firmwide session on the fundamentals of operating a consulting firm, helping employees understand how projects contribute to firm success and how individual choices affect client relationships and business results.

Built by Project Managers, for Project Managers

This program was designed from the inside out by our project managers in partnership with the Engineering Management Institute (EMI) and a cross-functional steering committee. We developed an approach tailored to the real challenges, expectations, and opportunities our project managers experience every day.

Looking Ahead

By investing in our people, we are investing in the future of Timmons Group, and in the industry’s next generation of project leaders. We’re excited to help employees build the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to drive success for their teams, clients, and careers.
