Overview
Timmons Group provided geotechnical engineering services for the new hospital facility in South Hill, Virginia. Project challenges included heavy foundation loads, potential expansive soils, and soils that were very wet. Geotechnical recommendations included supporting heavy building loads on compacted aggregate piers, zoned use of highly plastic soils in deeper portions of the fill mass, and providing suggested methods for dealing with very wet soils during site grading.
