Overview

The project was funded by The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation and BGE and is in West Baltimore behind James Mosher Elementary School. The site had a unique challenge because it sits within the Gwynns Falls watershed, The Middle Branch of the Patapsco River. The design requirements for this watershed were to retain the 100-year storm event. Timmons Group, in partnership with Fields-Inc. and Lewis Construction. Provided complete planning, design, permitting, construction administration and as-built close out for the project.

Timmons Group provided the design for stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control services for the site. Timmons Group utilized low impact development practices for stormwater management to treat and contain the water, right where it falls. The soils were suitable for infiltration. The Eddie Murray Field at BGE Park features a synthetic turf baseball diamond, dugouts, a backstop and a digital scoreboard. The project area was linear in nature and had limited site area for feasible ESDs. The most feasible option for an ESD practice was multiple infiltration trenches underneath the field. To avoid construction changes, a detailed site investigation was performed of the project area to include a topographic, utility infrastructure and as-built survey. Using this information as a basis of design, we then conducted several meetings with the City in order insure the proposed design complied with the City and State regulations. The construction plans and specifications were fully permitted with the jurisdiction to include the MDE.

Working closely with the Owners representative, Timmons Group performed construction administration duties to include site visits to monitor construction progress, weekly response and review of submittals and RFIs and minor design changes. Timmons Group performed the as-built of the ESD constructed with the project. The park was completed in Spring, 2017.
