Overview

The Petersburg City Hall Annex Rehabilitation project is a comprehensive effort to restore and modernize a historic government building that had not seen significant updates in over 15 years. The scope of work includes both interior and exterior renovations. On the exterior, a structural inspection conducted by Timmons Group led to recommendations for refurbishing the façade and addressing signs of deterioration.

Bid documents were developed, which included an engineer’s estimate, quantity estimates, item descriptions, and specifications. Timmons Group also developed a listing of local qualified contractors for the City to distribute the bid documents to, as well as post publicly to a larger group of potential bidders, to arrive at the most cost-effective prices.

Specific repair items that were specified included:

  • Replacement of brick
  • Repointing of mortar
  • Cleaning of brick masonry
  • Clean and paint exterior window trim
  • Clean exposed concrete
  • Replace gutter at east side canopy
  • Clean and paint canopy
  • Clean and repaint soffit and molding
  • Repair second-floor soffit
  • Repaint drain pipes

All rehabilitation efforts were carried out in compliance with the Virginia Existing Building Code (2018 Edition) and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for historic properties, as the City Hall Annex is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
