Overview
Timmons Group partnered with the North Carolina National Guard to design and construct a new regional readiness center in Burke County, NC, at the former site of the Western Youth Correctional Institute. The 86-acre site underwent demolition of a 167,000 SF, 16-story high-rise prison building, followed by full site clearing and development of a state-of-the-art National Guard Readiness Center. The project followed the SCO Advance Planning and Construction Document (CD) review process and complied with 1390/91 and Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection standards. Timmons Group designed the site to separate personal vehicles, trucks, and military equipment, ensuring safe and efficient circulation while maintaining separation from adjacent Department of Corrections facilities. The completed site features force protection security fencing and a secure entry control point. The new facility provides operational space for soldiers, administrative offices, and equipment storage areas.
