Overview
Blue Bay Townhomes, a new 263-unit residential development in Castle Hayne, North Carolina, was already underway when Timmons Group’s environmental team was brought on to finalize a tree inventory of the 50-acre site.
Initially tasked with tree identification to round out an existing inventory performed by others, our team quickly discovered gaps in the data, leaving the developer at risk for tree-clearing penalties. With the project schedule already in motion, Timmons Group’s environmental professionals, including ISA certified arborists, expanded the scope to complete a comprehensive tree inventory on an expedited timeline, ensuring full compliance with municipal regulations.
Despite challenging conditions in dense, thorny terrain, the team successfully mapped 1,200 trees, far exceeding the original estimate of 200. Given the nuance and specificity of tree protection regulations across municipalities, taking the time to reference local ordinances to guarantee accurate and complete data collection is essential.
By delivering a thorough and compliant inventory, our environmental team helped mitigate compliance risk and supported the project’s continued progress without costly delays or penalties.
