As one of Richmond’s primary transportation corridors, Arthur Ashe Boulevard connects major destinations across the city while serving as a critical link between the Diamond District and Scott’s Addition. Timmons Group partnered with the City of Richmond to envision a new multimodal bridge that does more than move people. It creates a memorable gateway between two of the city’s most vibrant and evolving neighborhoods.
Designed to balance mobility, safety, and placemaking, the bridge features protected pedestrian and bicycle facilities, signature gateway elements, and thoughtfully crafted public spaces. Scenic overlooks with custom seating, planters, and shaded gathering areas offer opportunities to pause and take in views of the surrounding cityscape, while architectural features inspired by the area’s industrial heritage reinforce a strong sense of place.
More than infrastructure, the Arthur Ashe Boulevard Gateway Bridge is a catalyst for connection, strengthening links between neighborhoods, supporting future growth, and celebrating the history and identity of this transformative corridor.
