Overview
Since 2022, Timmons Group has partnered with the City of Richmond and the Richmond Connects initiative to advance transportation equity through a comprehensive suite of engineering, geospatial, and grant support services. Leveraging Esri ArcGIS technology, Timmons Group’s experts mapped areas of need, conducted detailed infrastructure and demographic analyses, and integrated metrics such as historic redlining and disinvestment to prioritize equitable investment.
The team developed actionable recommendations—including projects, strategies, and policies—to create a more just and accessible multimodal transportation network. Community engagement was central to the process, with outreach efforts targeting underrepresented neighborhoods through public meetings, block parties, door-to-door outreach, and a dedicated ArcGIS StoryMaps website.
Timmons Group also played a key role in securing funding for implementation. Services included grant prospect research, preparation of technical documentation, and grant writing. Over the past several years, Timmons Group has supported Richmond Connects in applying for and securing significant grant awards, ensuring that community-driven projects have the resources to move from concept to construction and repair historical injustices.
