Overview

Timmons Group is supporting MBB Architects and the University of Virginia (UVA) on the renovation and 5,500 SF addition of the Center for Politics. Located northwest of Central Grounds, the site includes a historic 4,700 SF house built in 1939, which currently serves as the headquarters for UVA’s Center for Politics. The project aims to enhance programming, increase community engagement, and improve accessibility. Planned additions include new office space, a lobby and lounge, a 150-person event space, seminar room, library, and media studio. Site improvements feature updated gardens, hardscapes, and courtyards, along with a bioretention basin for stormwater management. Timmons Group developed comprehensive civil plans including site layout, grading, utilities, erosion & sediment control, and stormwater management. The project is designed to be ADA-compliant. As part of an enabling contract directly with UVA, Timmons Group also delivered survey, environmental, traffic, geotechnical, and civil engineering services for a new 700 LF entrance road, improving vehicle and pedestrian safety and access to the site.
