Overview

Located in Richmond’s Davee Gardens neighborhood, the T.B. Smith Community Center is a 30,000 SF facility that replaced an aging community center and expanded recreational opportunities for residents on the south side of Richmond.

The community center includes a large indoor gymnasium, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, a community kitchen, a playground, a multipurpose field, a splash pad, open green space, and extensive tree plantings. A walking trail along the northern edge of the site connects the parking areas, sidewalks, and emergency access road to create a continuous pedestrian loop throughout the property.

Timmons Group supported the project through civil engineering, landscape architecture, and community engagement services. Working closely with residents through public meetings and feedback surveys, the project team helped identify neighborhood priorities and incorporate them into the final design. The completed facility provides expanded access to recreation, community programming, and outdoor amenities while serving as a long-term investment in Richmond’s Southside communities.
