Timmons Group provided on-call assistance to the City of Richmond for emergency wall repairs at the Huguenot Road bridge at Chippenham Parkway. The bridge approaches were comprised of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls. Due to heavy rains and flooding in May 2018, the MSE wall along the southbound side of Huguenot Road partially failed. The Timmons Group structural engineering team provided conceptual repair sketches to the City and coordinated on-site meetings with the contractor within one day of the City’s request to visit the site. Following coordination with the surveyor and approval by the City, the contractor mobilized within two weeks after the team’s initial site visit. The team was able to lead the MSE wall repairs without lane closures along Huguenot Road, which was a huge win for the City. Timmons Group provided consulting services, full-time on-site inspections, MSE retaining wall repair design, and drainage design.
