Timmons Group Names Tracy Butler to Lead Expanded Energy Division

Richmond, VA – March 24, 2026 – Timmons Group is pleased to announce the launch of its expanded Energy Division, a strategic evolution of the firm’s existing capabilities designed to better support utilities, renewable energy developers, and communications providers as they build the infrastructure needed to power the future.

The Energy Division formalizes Timmons Group’s extensive work supporting energy-related infrastructure nationwide. Today, more than 100 Timmons Group professionals deliver engineering, surveying, environmental, and geospatial services for energy projects, supporting the planning, design, and permitting of critical infrastructure across multiple markets. The firm provided more than $34M of services to energy and telecommunications clients in 2025.

By establishing the Energy Division, Timmons Group is strengthening its ability to serve utilities, renewable energy developers, and telecommunications providers in rapidly evolving markets. The division brings together multidisciplinary experts to support complex energy and communications projects, helping clients navigate regulatory requirements, accelerate project delivery, and build resilient infrastructure at scale.

“For more than 30 years, Timmons Group has partnered with energy providers and infrastructure leaders to help shape the systems that power communities across the country,” said Brian Bortell, President and CEO of Timmons Group. “The launch of our expanded Energy Division is both a recognition of our decades-long experience and a forward-looking commitment to the future. We are bringing together our people, technology, and expertise under a unified vision to support the next generation of energy and communications infrastructure.”

Leading the expanded division is Tracy Butler, who joins the firm with more than 15 years of experience in the energy sector.

Butler brings a deep background supporting developers, owners, and operators across the renewable energy sector. Over the course of his career, he has directly overseen engineering for more than 10 GW (gigawatts) of utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects across the United States while delivering more than 50 projects nationwide.

Prior to joining Timmons Group, Butler served as an Executive Vice President, Engineering Americas at RWE and spent a decade with Apex Clean Energy. Throughout his career, Butler has built and led high-performing engineering organizations, including managing teams of more than 85 professionals responsible for multidisciplinary project delivery.

“Tracy brings a well-rounded and impressive background in the energy sector and is widely regarded as an entrepreneurial, forward-thinking leader,” said Chris Dodson, Director of Field Operations and Energy at Timmons Group. “As demand for renewable energy and resilient infrastructure continues to grow, Tracy’s leadership will help us further expand our capabilities and strengthen our services for clients across this critical market.”

In this role, Butler will work with teams across Timmons Group to expand the firm’s presence in the energy market and support projects nationwide.
