Albemarle Campus Club Recognized with ENR MidAtlantic Regional Best Project Award

Timmons Group is proud to celebrate that the Albemarle Campus Club in Albemarle County, Virginia, was recognized with an ENR MidAtlantic Regional Best Project award in the office/retail/mixed-use category! This recognition reflects the collaborative effort between our team, the Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia, Albemarle County Public Schools, and teaming partners who worked together to create a facility that enhances out-of-school opportunities for youth and teens.

After years of working with the Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia, our team had the privilege of providing civil engineering support for the new Albemarle Campus Club, with Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) serving as a key collaborator throughout the process. The team evaluated several potential sites before selecting a final location within walking distance to ACPS’s Greer Elementary, Journey Middle, and Albemarle High School, and a short bus ride from several others, allowing the Club to support students and families across the county’s broader school community.

The site’s design aims to blend seamlessly with the existing topography while maintaining a connection to the larger school campus, resulting in a multi-story building that features indoor and outdoor recreation spaces on every level and multiple viewpoints of the natural surroundings. Timmons Group worked through a Special Exception process to allow disturbance of steep slopes on the site.

The Club opened to the public in April 2023 and serves up to 300 members every day. The 52,000 SF facility includes youth and teen centers, seven program rooms, a culinary arts kitchen, a café/multi-purpose room, a STEM lab, an art studio, two gyms, a four-court squash center, two outdoor sports courts, athletic fields, and direct access to hiking trails.

Across the MidAtlantic region, we remain committed to supporting our clients as they create meaningful spaces for their communities. Our interdisciplinary teams work closely with school systems, nonprofits, municipalities, and organizations of all sizes to provide a wide range of services that align with each project’s goals and long-term vision.

We’re proud to have played a role in this invaluable project that serves as a community hub for hundreds of students in Albemarle County. Congratulations to our partners on this well-deserved recognition!
