When a resident in the Old Oaks subdivision of Crozier, Virginia, reported concerns about the smell and taste of their well water, testing revealed a serious issue—gasoline contamination. The team confirmed that seven wells were affected, with another 18 at risk. To safeguard the community’s drinking water, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) decided to expand the existing Aqua Virginia Crozier Waterworks.
Goochland County led the project procurement and selected Timmons Group to provide a full suite of engineering and construction management services. Our team performed well performance testing, conducted survey work, completed geotechnical and environmental assessments, and designed the civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural components. We also provided additional support in community relations, construction management, and inspection efforts to ensure a smooth transition to a safer water supply.
The project included installing a new 32-gallon-per-minute well pump and controls, a 10,000-gallon atmospheric storage tank, a 12’x16’ precast concrete pump house, a new duplex booster pump system with variable frequency drives, and water treatment modifications. We also installed 8,000 feet of new ductile iron waterline, 26 new water service connections, and transferred existing services.
Using 3D modeling software, Timmons Group designed the new pump house and created renderings for public meetings to provide transparency and community engagement throughout the process. The expansion of the Crozier Waterworks system now provides residents with a reliable and safe drinking water source—an essential component in upholding public health and the environment.
