Don’t Lose Your Coverage! How can Timmons Group assist with your VSMP registration?

Timmons Group’s interdisciplinary team of environmental professionals maintains a constant focus on environmental issues and regulatory compliance requirements. We are vigilant about staying current with regulatory policy and pending changes, as they can have significant impacts on project feasibility, budget, and schedule.

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has announced that the existing General VPDES Permit for Discharges of Stormwater from Construction Activities will expire on June 30, 2024. Operators of construction activities with permit coverage under the existing Construction General Permit that will continue land-disturbing activities after June 30, 2024, or for which final stabilization has not been achieved must reapply for permit coverage by May 1, 2024.

The following will be required for permit coverage:

  • A complete, accurate, and signed registration statement submitted to the DEQ Office of Stormwater Management for projects for which DEQ is the authority OR the appropriate local Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP) authority for which the project is located, no later than by May 1, 2024. A list of VSMP authorities by jurisdiction is available on DEQ’s website (VSMP Authorities).
  • It is critical to note that any application for re-issuance of permit coverage under the new 2024 permit will be denied if the permittee has unpaid annual maintenance fees. DEQ’s email reminded permittees that fees will be assessed for any permits that will be in effect after December 31, 2023.

We can help! Our Timmons Group project managers routinely assist our clients in renewing their permit coverage. For more details on preparing your registration statement, please reach out to your trusted Timmons Group contact, or contact Hunter Wines by phone at 804.200.6386 or by email at hunter.wines@timmons.com.
