The Durham Parks and Recreation Master Plan identified a need for more athletic fields to serve Durham’s growing population. In 2016, Durham City purchased 50 acres of previously abandoned land to develop an athletic park for the community. This project created more recreational opportunities in the Eastern portion of Durham, where soccer and outdoor recreation were previously limited.

Timmons Group worked with Durham City to design an athletic park facility consisting of four natural turf soccer/multipurpose fields, a practice field, a circulation road and parking, a maintenance and restroom building with a concrete plaza, a playground and shelter, sidewalks, walking trails, stormwater management measures, lighting, and irrigation. The park provides Durham Parks Department with a revenue stream that helps support the maintenance of the facility.

Timmons Group provided site design, stormwater management, environmental services, surveying services, landscape architecture, geotechnical engineering, and water/wastewater engineering for the development of this new park. Our teams supported the city from schematic design through construction documentation, bidding, and construction observation.
