River City Sportsplex, owned and operated by the Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation, is home to one of the largest collections of synthetic fields in the United States. This 115-acre, year-round, multi-sport, state-of-the-art athletic complex hosts some of the most elite sporting events such as the Jefferson Cup (soccer), IWLCA Capital Cup (lacrosse) and Shooting Star Tournament (field hockey).
As with all major sporting events comes the participants and spectators who generate their fair share of traffic. The initial access in and out of River City Sportsplex provided a right-in and right-out only. This required several undesired u-turn movements from the traffic generated by the sports complex.

Timmons Group originally designed the complex in 2011 and returned to work with the Department of Parks and Recreation to design a full access intersection with a left turn lane from Genito Road so that County residents and tournament users could arrive at and depart from the sports complex in a safe, timely manner without the need for a u-turn.

Following design approval, Timmons Group provided construction oversight on behalf of the County until the new intersection was completed and open for users of the facility to enjoy.
