Timmons Group partnered with Moseley Architects to provide Guilford County with a new, eight-story, 396,946 square foot detention facility. The new facility includes core spaces for 1,600 total inmates (inclusive of the approximate capacity of 400 for the existing jail). Core functions will include a new vehicular sallyport sized for buses, intake and booking areas to include holding cells, Magistrate area, courtroom space, Officers’ station, dress/shower facilities, property issue and storage. The administrative area includes records, public and staff toilet and locker facilities, pre-trial services, training and fitness areas.

Timmons Group provided complete civil engineering services, as well as the production of construction documents, permitting process and construction administration for the project. Our team also coordinated with NCDENR and the City of Greensboro to obtain project approval and worked with Guilford County Attorneys to produce maps to aid in land acquisitions for utility easement dedications. Timmons Group had to coordinate with multiple utility providers including Piedmont Natural Gas, Duke Energy, Time Warner Cable, AT&T, and City of Greensboro in order to reroute utilities around the proposed building site. It was key that we kept an open line of communication with the City of Greensboro Water Resources Department in order to coordinate a connection between the on-site drainage system and a new City drainage system that was under construction.

Construction costs were $85 million, which was $10 million lower than anticipated.
