Overview

After alleged arsons burned down a major element of the play equipment in the City of Chesapeake’s Fun Forest, Sears More Green Across America contest dedicated $30,000 to rebuild the play equipment and entry features of the city park. Timmons Group’s Landscape Architects designed an entry garden to bring a fresh new appeal to the rebuilt park.

A plaza lush with seasonal planting, enhanced hardscape, and generous seating greets visitors upon arrival. From the entry plaza, a broad path winds through the vertical trunks of a pine forest; children’s excitement builds as they approach a new entry feature: an extensive butterfly garden. This garden is fun for children, providing opportunities for playful photos, while at the same time serving as a learning landscape to teach the kids about native plants, seasonal changes, and butterfly habitat. Beyond this garden lies the secure forest play area where children of all ages are able to explore, discover, and engage in the landscape that surrounds them.
