Richbrau’s Back! Touring Shockoe Bottom’s Newest Brewery

Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom will soon be home to Richbrau Brewing Co., the latest brewery to come to the historic neighborhood. The brewery’s name is a revival of the Richbrau brand, formerly a beer produced by Richmond’s Home Brewing Co. from 1933-1969 and also the name of a brewpub located in Shockoe Slip that closed in 2010. At Timmons Group’s March Commercial Coffee event, sponsored by ENV, attendees toured the space in anticipation of its grand opening slated for June 2019.

The craft brewery and taproom is located on South 20th street near the Canal Walk and bustling Main Street. The space, with design services provided by ENV, formerly acted as an auto shop and foundry, and features exposed brick and an industrial feel.

Construction on the space is expected to finish in April 2019. Once complete, the brewery will feature a large, open-layout tasting room with a clear view of the facility’s production space. Richbrau is located near several apartment complexes and it is expected that over 95% of the customers will be foot traffic from the surrounding residences.

In addition to Richbrau Brewing Co., Commercial Coffee has toured several other exciting Richmond region projects including The Goodwyn at Union Hill, Tang & Biscuit, Tabol Brewing, Richmond Volleyball Club, Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) Richmond, the GRTC Pulse, Barber Martin Agency, and Gather. The goal of our Commercial Coffee series is to connect with the community and educate our guests on new projects that are shaping the future of our city.
