Picture This: Goochland Animal Shelter

Planning for the new Goochland County Animal Shelter began in January 2015 and a groundbreaking was held in August 2017.

Built over the former clinic, the new shelter was completed and opened to the public in June 2020.

A section of brick on an interior wall pays homage to the original structure that was erected in 1986.

The 13,941 SF facility incorporates a state-of-the-art municipal animal shelter, family adoption center, outdoor play and designated relief areas, staff and animal protection officer lounges, donation storage room, dozens of indoor and outdoor kennels, and an in-house spay and neuter veterinary clinic.

Located at 1900 Hidden Rock Lane, the clinic’s size and amenities surpass the state of the previous shelter and the staff is now able to serve over 500 animals a year.

The modernized Goochland Animal Shelter facility is a wholesome example of collaboration between the County, community members, and local supporting organizations like the Goochland Pet Lovers, who provided numerous and generous contributions to fund the new clinic.
