Overview

The Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) and the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands (FFSL) both needed a solution that streamlined the integration of fire perimeter data and their Fire Business Systems (FBS). FireMAP allows fire business staff and GIS analysts to easily delineate wildfire perimeter data and associate polygons to point incident data from the Integrated Reporting of Wildland-Fire Information (IRWIN). The process of capturing wildfire perimeter spatial data and linking it to wildfire business data was inefficient, lagging, time-consuming, tedious, and error-prone.

FireMAP was designed and developed as a product to integrate with Gold’s FBS and Timmons Group’s Wildfire Risk Assessment Portal (WRAP), which both NDF and FFSL had already procured. FireMAP makes it easy for non-GIS users to map fire perimeters and associate them to points of origin stored in FBS. FireMAP automatically intersects uploaded or sketched fire perimeters with the agency’s GIS data to produce land ownership calculations for use in FBS.

FireMAP provides several value-add enhancements to a state’s Fire Business System. FireMAP saves time and money and eliminates the need for GIS staff to digitize fire perimeters and manually calculate the land ownership information needed to distribute fire costs.
