Overview

As a sub-consultant to Giuliani Associates Architects, Inc., Timmons Group was the civil engineer and sustainable designer on this $26 million addition and alteration to the Weide Field, Maryland Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF). Timmons Group provided civil engineering, landscape architecture and environmental services for the design and construction of the new addition to the AASF. Construction will be of permanent masonry and steel construction with built-up roof, concrete floor, mechanical and electrical equipment. Supporting facilities are rigid and flexible paving for aircraft parking/tie down pads, ground support equipment, hover lanes, fuel storage/dispensing system, aircraft wash facility, exterior lighting, fire protection, and fencing. Physical security measures will be incorporated into design including maximum feasible standoff distance from roads, parking areas and vehicle unloading areas. Beams, heavy landscaping and bollards will be utilized to prevent access when standoff distance cannot be maintained.

Also included in the project is expansion and upgrade of the existing AASF and aircraft parking apron. The construction is to build adequate aircraft parking apron and taxiways for UH-60 and CH-47 aircraft. Storage and maintenance space will be provided for assigned personnel and aircraft. The project adds 11,500 square feet of renovated space, 20,000 square feet of office space and 65,000 square feet of hangar space.
