Overview

Timmons Group and Henrico County staff identified a need for restoration of approximately 1,200 linear feet along an unnamed tributary to Deep Run adjacent to the Quarter Mill Apartment complex. The existing channel is located behind several of the apartment buildings and a section of the channel had been severely eroded with an approximate 15 tall bank causing a hazard to the existing utilities, buildings and residents.

The project design has been completed and construction began in late August 2019. The project included the preparation of complete design plans and specifications for the restoration of approximately 1,200 linear feet of stream channel. Initial removal rate calculations have estimated that total nitrogen would be reduced by 1,252 pounds per year, total phosphorus would be reduced by 498 pounds per year, and that the total amount of sediment would be reduced by 171,261 pounds per year. Timmons Group assisted the County in securing project funding through the VA DEQ’s Stormwater Local Assistance Fund.
