Overview

This project was constructed in an effort to reduce the 100-year flood limits along a section of Nuttree Branch from Old Hundred Road to the Brandermill Golf Course.

The project involved natural channel design along approximately 760 linear feet of a degraded urban stream that flows along the back yards of several residential homes. The original channel did not have sufficient capacity to convey the 100-year storm flows without flooding the adjacent home sites. Therefore, Timmons Group utilized natural stream channel design practices along with HEC-RAS software to design a two-stage channel resulting in the reduction of flooding and to protect the stream channel from further degradation.

Construction of the stream channel improvements was completed in March 2010. Timmons Group continues to perform annual performance monitoring to confirm that the success criteria are being achieved as required by the Nationwide Permit 27. To date, all success criteria have been met.
