Overview

Henrico County acquired the historic Armour House and 25 acres adjacent to an existing 575- acre park site located in the eastern portion of the county. Timmons Group was selected to review and update the master plan and new addition to guide programming opportunities for the future. This project brought together the local Board of Supervisors, Recreation and Parks staff, and local citizens to create a plan that utilizes the historic facility. A key design consideration was programming the Armour House and park for functions such as wedding receptions. Plans for the historic property and phase one of the park development call for the development of trails, tennis and basketball courts, and picnic facilities while also integrating period structures and paving materials.

Plants were chosen to provide a subtle backdrop to formal ceremonies; multi-seasonal color displays complement functions held in the space. Another primary goal of the design was to protect existing landscape features, especially mature specimen trees and boxwood, during and after construction.
