Our commitment

At Timmons Group, we believe in and fully support efforts to increase inclusion and belonging and we mirror this goal through our own initiatives. With this mindset, we can play a role in helping to positively support our employees, surrounding communities, and the industries we serve.

Timmons Group is a proud member of the CEO Action coalition, whose goal is to collectively take measurable action in advancing diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Our CEO, Brian Bortell—and by extension, Timmons Group—is one of thousands of signatories in the coalition worldwide. In addition to our CEO Action commitment, Timmons Group offers a variety of Employee Resource Groups to our staff to help support the commitments we have made as a firm:

Women in Design

Since 2017, the goal of Timmons Group’s Women in Design committee has been to recruit, develop, and retain talented women, a mission that has already led to an increase in the number of women in leadership roles in our industries. Timmons Group’s Women in Design steering committee is comprised of women from various departments firmwide.

Diversity in Design

Timmons Group launched Diversity in Design to promote a fully inclusive environment and move the firm along the path to greater cultural understanding. We strive for our employees to reflect the diversity of the communities in which we live, and we want our employees to be able to look up through the leadership of our organization and see themselves at any level of accomplishment.

Focus Groups led by the Timmons Group Diversity Council

The Timmons Group Diversity Council is made up of Timmons Group professionals from across the firm and is comprised of various members of our leadership team including project managers, group leaders, and directors. The Council hosts focus groups to apply employee feedback to our firm’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. The goal of the Diversity Council is to lead, champion, provide direction, and oversee diversity initiatives throughout the firm.

Timmons Group Volunteer Opportunities

By offering paid hours for unique volunteer opportunities, we embrace a community-oriented culture that our employees can take pride in while connecting with their own diverse communities through acts of inclusion.

Celebratory Months

Timmons Group’s diversity initiatives translate to heritage months that foster respect and open-mindedness for the many cultures that build our firm, including celebrations like Black History Month, Asian American Pacific Islander Month, Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month, National Native American Heritage Month, Pride Month, International Women’s Day, Women’s Equality Day, and Women’s History Month.

Partnerships

Timmons Group is proud to partner with organizations that promote and enhance the significance of individuals throughout the industries we serve, including NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), SWE (Society of Women Engineers), VA Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Virginia Values Veterans V3 Program, and more. The firm is also recognized by industry partners as a leader in inclusivity, including by WTS as a recipient of the Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award in 2022 and by Esri as a recipient of the GIS for Diversity Award in 2023.
