Overview

Timmons Group provided the survey & utility location, geotechnical site investigation, Phase I ESA, stream and wetland determination and confirmation, and civil/site design for the addition to Mooresville High School (MHS). The addition is a 116,000 square foot building for the athletics and performing arts centers to be used by both the school and the community. The athletic side of the addition features a 2-story wing with physical education rooms, team locker rooms, and classrooms. A brand new gymnasium seats 2,200 The performing arts sector features a 1,600 seat auditorium with additional arts spaces for chorus, band, drama, and art.

The site was bisected by Magnolia Street. Students cross this road several times a day so Timmons Group worked closely with the DOT and local transportation officials to design safe crossing areas along the street. The existing baseball field would become the home to the expanded school so we developed an early site package to construct a new baseball field prior to removing the existing baseball field so that there was no lost playing time. The school purchased several residential properties that would become the expanded parking lot for the new building. During demolition, we worked with the local fire department to use the existing houses for training and they completed a controlled burn at each of the properties.
