Enterprise GIS Strategic Planning, Design and Implementation

Project Summary

Fairfax Water, Virginia’s largest water utility, serving 1.5 million people in Northern Virginia, contracted with Timmons Group to migrate its existing AutoCAD-based mapping system to an Esri-based Enterprise GIS.  The scope of this project consisted of Strategic RoadMap and an initial Phase 1 (Diagnostics) discovery of existing mapping systems, infrastructure, and applications that require migration to, or integration with, work-order management and facilities management in addition to integration with distribution modeling software. Web-based applications are included to meet the needs of field and local personnel, and service oriented architecture (SOA), compatible with other enterprise applications, will be considered for both short and long-term system growth and integration.  The initial phase was followed by a multi-phased GIS implementation that included the integration of SAP CCS and additional SAP modules, field-based GIS through mobile computing and SCADA and Water Quality (LIMS) integration.

Phase 1 Project Tasks:

  • Program Management Workshops
  • Situational Analysis Documentation
  • Information Product Descriptions
  • System Design / Functional Specification Documents
  • Data Model Prototyping Deliverables
