Brian Bortell, PE

Brian Bortell, President and Chief Operating Officer at Timmons Group, has more than 25 years of experience leading and developing the firm’s technical teams to meet the needs and vision of its clients. Brian directs the daily activities of the firm’s 230+ staff.  In this role, he ensures project team talent and resources exceed client expectations and produce shared success. He also oversees each of the firm’s operating units, as well as Finance, Accounting, Information Technology, Human Resources, Marketing and Business Development.

Brian’s background includes project management, design, construction oversight, operations and implementation of infrastructure solutions for public and private clients as well as State and Federal government. Before joining Timmons Group, he worked for the Virginia Department of Health where he oversaw the construction and operation of collection, distribution and pollution control facilities.

Brian lives in Chesterfield County with his wife, Angela, and their two children, Josh and Allison. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Midlothian Rotary and is a 2004 graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond. Over the years, Brian has distinguished himself as an endurance athlete by running over 20 marathons and more than 100 triathlons. He has qualified for and raced the Hawaiian Ironman on numerous occasions, and is active in both the local Road Runners Club and Richmond Triathlon Club.
