Project Summary
This 55-acre project is a multi-project mitigation site including off-site stream and riparian restoration for Celebrate Virginia and for the development of a 17+ acre wetland mitigation site for the Nature Conservancy of Virginia. The project intent was to develop an ecologically enhanced riparian corridor, a fully-functioning forested wetland and upland community to off-set jurisdictional area impacts in the watershed. The 55-acre property was divided from a larger farm tract from the Ottman Farm property along Mountain Run.
The first component of this project was completed in 2003 and was comprised of 19 acres of riparian buffer establishment and stream restoration within Mountain Run. Our team developed and administered a buffer restoration planting plan as well as facilitated the design, approval and construction of streambank stabilization on a portion of Mountain Run that is located in the existing Williams Gas Pipeline easement. Streambank stabilization on this project included grading and placement of several stabilization structures including deflector and cross vanes to stabilize an area of the stream where a high pressure gas pipeline was exposed.
The second component of this project is the design, regulatory coordination and approval and construction administration of approximately 17 acres of forested wetland restoration/creation that is adjacent to the riparian restoration area of Mountain Run. We are currently performing annual performance monitoring services for the created and restored wetland areas
