Lakota Mitigation Bank

Project Summary

Our Team of Environmental Scientists and Engineers have completed feasibility investigations, received approval on the Mitigation Banking Instrument, designed and assisted with construction of the Lakota Mitigation Bank.

The 142-acre bank site was historically and is currently used for agricultural purposes which include cattle and hay production.  In the past the onsite streams were straightened and used as the primary drinking source for the cattle which severely degraded the streams onsite.

The construction plans included the full restoration of 1,311 linear feet of channel; combined channel and buffer enhancement of 1,605 linear feet of channel; and buffer enhancement along 3,138 linear feet of stream channel.  The establishment of forested buffer in association with the majority of the stream linear footage onsite as well as the preservation of available areas of existing forested buffer was undertaken.  Areas to be included in the Mitigation Bank totaled approximately 30 acres of stream and supporting riparian buffer.

Construction of the project was completed in May 2011.  Timmons Group continues to perform annual performance monitoring to confirm that the success criteria are being achieved as required by the Mitigation Banking Instrument.  To date, all success criteria have been met.
