The Landscape Architecture team was responsible for developing a landscape master plan, providing a unified vision for this 11.5 mile corridor of I40 / 440 highway. Plans mitigate disturbance through reforestation and create gateways into the city at four of the seven interchanges along the corridor. Landscape improvements feature the use of pollinator plants, wildflowers and native plants. Plans also allow for future public art installations, LID storm water improvements. and the integration of pedestrian improvements.
The plan for each interchange builds upon existing site features to create visually interesting landscapes in all seasons. The use of pollinator-friendly plants promotes the revival of the dwindling bee population and embraces the state’s agricultural history. Our team coordinated plans with NCDOT and the City of Raleigh. Our team prepared construction documents for phase one and will provide construction administration services. A $1.3 million phase one will be installed in Fall of 2019.
