Timmons Group is providing environmental permit compliance and erosion control inspection services for the Desert Wind Power Project, a private wind energy electric power generation facility. This facility will be the first utility-scale wind farm in North Carolina, and one of the first in the southeastern U.S. The proposed facility, if fully built out, could have up to 150 wind turbines that would generate 300 megawatts (MW) of power at full capacity and provide millions of dollars in tax and landowner revenue for decades. The wind farm is located in Perquimans and Pasquotank Counties, in a rural section of northeastern North Carolina near Elizabeth City and Hertford, on approximately 22,000 acres leased from more than 60 local landowners. The total of landowner payments and taxes for this first phase of the project will inject more than $1.1 million into the local economy each year.
