Project Summary
Timmons Group worked with Moseley Architects on the development of this new 1750 student high school for Henrico County Public Schools. We were involved in the entire site development process, from site selection through construction administration.
We began by assisting Henrico County in the evaluation of several sites that were under consideration in the area. Our role was to ensure that the desired site program would fit properly and cost effectively onto the site while considering constraints such as the presence of wetlands, topography, road access and zoning restrictions.
Timmons Group then performed the site design for the entire 60 acre site. Layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management and utility plans were developed and environmental permitting was completed. We also managed the site plan approval process through Henrico County. All of this work was done in concert with Moseley Architects so that the design teams’ work was fully coordinated. As a separate, but associated project, Timmons Group designed improvements to Shady Grove Road which upgraded it from a rural road section to an improved urban section along the rear frontage of the site.
During the construction phase of the project, Timmons Group acted on behalf of the architectural team and the school system advocating for proper implementation of the site design. There were several issues during construction that required extensive negotiations, especially concerning the athletic fields.
Following occupancy of the school, Timmons Group also worked with the Friends of Wildcat Baseball Booster Club on master plan enhancements to the competition baseball and softball fields. These improvements are to provide additional facilities beyond those available with the initial project funding and are to be financed in part by fundraising from the boosters.
