UNCG Nursing Building Moves Forward to meet STEM Demands

Greensboro, NC – May 10, 2018 – A groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of construction for the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) new Nursing and Instructional Building on Friday, April 27. Key officials and community members gathered to celebrate the future $105 million building for this innovative, learning-centered college. The facility is anticipated to open in the summer of 2020.

The Nursing and Instructional Building, located on the former site of the McIver Building that was demolished this month, will offer high-quality training and education delivery. “We’re seeing a lot of growth on university campuses across the region,” said Brian Crutchfield, Principal of Timmons Group’s Greensboro office. “With a high demand in STEM and health fields and overfilling in programs, the University is taking the right approach in response to the demand. This is a powerful opportunity to support existing programs and future student recruitment.”

In collaboration with LS3P Associates/SmithGroupJJR for the design, Timmons Group, a local civil engineering firm, provided designs for the site layout, site utilities, site grading, stormwater, and erosion control.  Construction will be handled by Rodgers/DPR Construction.

The new Nursing and Instructional Building will allow students to expand their professional expertise and stay in step with the ever-changing advancements in today’s nursing environment. The new building will emphasize sustainable design and offer flexible laboratory research space for Biology, Chemistry and Health and Human Sciences, in addition to classroom space.

UNCG is a public university that is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina system.
