Timmons Group Announces May Webinar with the Missouri Department of Conservation

Richmond, VA –April 20, 2017 – Timmons Group, a leading provider of geospatial solutions, announced their May webinar with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) titled, “Engaging Anglers Through Technology – The MDC Story.” The webinar is scheduled for Thursday May 4th from 3:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. EST and will focus on how MDC has developed and implemented a mobile strategy to better engage anglers in Missouri and keep the public engaged via mobile apps.  It will be presented by Alex Prentice, ‎Fisheries Information Systems Manager for MDC, and Lowell Ballard, Director of Geospatial Technologies for Timmons Group.

The MO Fishing app was designed with an innovative waterbody centric user-interface for anglers and other non-technical users. The app features custom maps allowing users to locate fishing resources such as; 1,000 managed waterbodies, 580+ boat ramps, fishing jetties and docks. One of the most popular features is the inclusion of more than 4,000 fish attractor structures placed by MDC biologists. Anglers can use the GPS on their mobile device to locate and fish these structures.

Users can purchase a license, find water bodies of interest, locate boat ramps and other access points, and navigate to their favorite fishing spots. The app includes a Fish Guide which allows users to peruse a list of fish species found in Missouri waters and search and visualize the best bets for any water body. Users can also view photos, fish distributions, and detailed information about each species.

The current product timeline includes exciting new features coming this year such as the ability to bookmark locations, create and manage a journal, and gamification elements (e.g., badges, rewards and social integration).

The app is available for Apple and Android. In this talk we will detail lessons-learned and the process used to create this solution.
