Coming up.... Commercial Coffee Richmond is at the Hippodrome and Taylor Mansion this month. We visited the site in Historic Jackson Ward about 5 years ago and, WOW, what a difference you’ll see! The Hippodrome and neighboring Taylor Mansion have been renovated into a modern day music venue and a cozy live music and dinner setting, respectively. Ron Stallings of Walker Row Partnership has been working on the project for years and is about to see all his hard work out on display at the Grand Opening of the Hippodrome this month!
Apparently, The Hippodrome opened in 1914 as a movie theatre and then in the 1920’s and 1930’s The Hippodrome in was attracting live performance acts such as Billie Holiday and Nat King Cole. In 1945 there was a fire that resulted in the theatre to be completed gutted and it seems it was never the same again. Walker Row Partnership is renovating the Hippodrome back to a 1930’s style theatre that will host live R&B acts. The neighboring Taylor Mansion will be a cozy southern cuisine restaurant and live entertainment venue.
Ron Stallings of Walker Row Partnership will give a tour of The Hippodrome and Taylor Mansion along with a look into the past and future of the buildings – a great display of his hard work, no doubt. Join us to visit both of these historic sites before their Grand Opening to the public this month!
