Water

Meet the Team: Chris Petree, PE, DBIA

“For the Greater Good” is not only a line in a quirky buddy cop action/comedy entitled Hot Fuzz, but it’s Chris’ inspiration for his recent move south. Chris is now leading water/wastewater projects in the Carolinas from Raleigh, NC. The Raleigh office is our North Carolina headquarters and we now have more than 75 technical staff in that office including water/wastewater engineers, stormwater engineers, environmental staff, and surveying professionals.

So, we know he’s a fan of obscure movies… what else can we discover?

Q. How long have you been with Timmons Group and how have your roles evolved?
About 11 years. I started right out of college at VMI, as an entry-level engineer, now focused on growing our North Carolina water infrastructure presence.

Fun Fact: When Chris moved from Richmond to Raleigh he built the same house…again. Slightly different elevation – SAME EXACT INTERIOR. Takes the guess work out of furniture placement.

Q. What is your favorite part of your job?
Easy – the people I work with.

Q. What’s been your favorite project to work on and why?
James River Water Project. There is a little bit of everything on this project. Specifically, I was involved in the treatment plant but overall the project spans two counties, culturally sensitive land, and the design included just about all aspects of utility engineering. It’s four projects in one: river water intake and pump station, raw water pipeline to deliver water to the new treatment plant located near Ferncliff and finished water distribution and elevated storage tank.

Q. If civil engineering didn’t exist, what would be your dream job?
Working for NASA. I feel that it would be full of adventure and challenges. However, working in my current field definitely has its own set of challenges and makes such a difference within the communities I live, I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.
(author note: Chris is one of the smartest people I know… definitely not a space cadet).

Q. What are some of your hobbies outside of work?
Whitewater Kayaking. It provides everything sitting behind a desk doesn’t…
