February 8 , 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Timmons Group Awarded Three Engineering Excellence Awards at ACEC Virginia’s Annual Gala Richmond, VA – February 8, 2007 – Timmons Group was recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies - Virginia with three Engineering Excellence Awards at ACEC’s annual gala in Richmond at The Jefferson Hotel on Thursday evening, February 8th. In the transportation category, an Honor Award was presented for the U.S. Route 17 project in Chesapeake, Virginia. Timmons Group is proud to have been a partner with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in the design of 11.6 miles of new four-lane divided highway, from Dominion Boulevard to the North Carolina state line. Construction of the 3-year, $41 million project was completed in 2006. In 2004, the Route 17 project received the Exemplary Ecosystem Initiative award from the Federal Highway Administration for protecting wildlife and preserving the Great Dismal Swamp ecosystem. In the technical services/special projects category, an Honor Award was presented for the Broad Street Community Development Authority (CDA) project in Richmond, Virginia. The CDA project was a $66.7 million public-private partnership created to spur redevelopment within the City of Richmond’s urban center. Timmons Group worked with ECI Development Services, the CDA’s development manager, in the design and construction of underground utility improvements, pedestrian and traffic enhancements, streetscaping, and parking facilities. In the technical services/special projects category, a Merit Award was presented for the Windsor Hall at WindsorMeade project in Williamsburg, Virginia. WindsorMeade is a 106-acre continuing care retirement community being developed by Virginia United Methodist Homes. Timmons Group provided 3-dimensional data for our client’s global positioning system (GPS) machine control equipment and also utilized that same 3-D model of the engineering site design to support our three field crews in the stakeout of more conventional items that required tighter vertical tolerances. Having this data loaded on both the contractor’s grading equipment and our survey instruments allowed J.H. Martin to complete the site portion of this fast-paced, multi-disciplined project ahead of schedule. Timmons Group is a multi-disciplined professional services firm providing civil engineering, site development, transportation engineering and highway design, park and community planning, water and wastewater facilities design, geographic information systems, stormwater management, geotechnical assessments and materials testing, construction administration, irrigation design, landscape architecture, LEED® and sustainable design, urban planning, surveying, GPS machine control and environmental services to both public and private clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The firm employs more than 325 people and has corporate headquarters in Richmond, Virginia, and regional offices in Chesapeake, Virginia; Charlottesville, Virginia; Prince George, Virginia; Ashburn, Virginia; and Greensboro, North Carolina.
