September 20, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Timmons Group Landscape Architecture Team Wins “Keep Virginia Beautiful” Honors Richmond, VA – September 20, 2007 –The “Keep Virginia Beautiful” Landscape Excellence Awards Competition has selected two Timmons Group Landscape Architecture projects as first and second place winners in the statewide contest that recognizes individuals, businesses, institutional and governmental organizations for improving the environment through landscape excellence. Recognized for superiority in the categories of Municipal and Institutional landscape design, winners will be honored at an awards presentation at the Holiday Inn Central in Richmond on October 10th. First place was awarded in the Municipal category for Richmond City Hall to Neal Beasley, Lu Gay Lanier, and Tommy Edwards. The Richmond City Hall project is a gateway for the City of Richmond and a model for future urban planting design. The design utilizes new varieties and unique plant species to give year round color, texture and fragrance. Specific design challenges were connecting people to the elevated plantings and creating a pedestrian experience. The City Hall landscape has become a showcase complimenting architectural renovations by SMBW Architects. Awarded second place in the Institutional category, Timmons Group’s Lakewood Manor Memory Garden, designed by Nathan Gruver and SFCS Inc. was intended to enhance the quality of life for seniors. Designed to appeal to all five human senses, the garden will be used for daily therapy with the hope of offering patients a connection to past experiences. According to the project manager LuGay Lanier, LA, FASLA, “the garden embraces the integration of horticultural therapy and learning landscapes to offer Lakewood Manor residents a mentally stimulating and safe outdoor garden.” About Timmons Group For more information contact: |
