August 11, 2006 Timmons Group Contracts with VDOT to Integrate Linear Referencing and SOA FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For more information contact: Richmond, VA – August 11, 2006 - Timmons Group is pleased to announce the company’s Technology sector has been awarded the OneMap Phase 2.0 contract with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
The OneMap Phase 2.0 contract comes at a time when Timmons Group continues to lead the geospatial services industry in the implementation of innovative Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) applications. The goal of the OneMap 2.0 project is to develop a simplified design-time control for displaying GIS data across various non-homogenous applications in an enterprise, while maintaining a consistent look and feel for map presentation. It expands upon Phase 1.0 in that the user will have the ability to create points, lines, polylines and polygons through ESRI ArcGIS Server against an ESRI ArcSDE data source. Phase 2.0 integrates VDOT’s linear referencing system (LRS) and provides the user with the ability to create point and linear-based events.
“OneMap is unique because its base behavior is developer controlled and can be tailored to as many different VDOT Divisions as is needed to maintain and operate the state’s roads, bridges and tunnels, but it will look and respond the same way for each employee. A user with little or no GIS background can be very productive while operating the OneMap interface,” said Lowell Ballard, director of Advanced Technologies for Timmons Group. Phase 2.0 will also expand on the host of web services to support the OneMap control, adding advanced querying and selection capabilities while remaining true to the SOA model.
