Timmons Group to Provide Civil Engineering Services for Defense Information Systems Agency Headquarters

Richmond, VA – April 30, 2008 – Timmons Group, an ENR 500 Design Firm and a leader in civil engineering and environmental consulting services, announced today that the firm has been awarded a contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District and Hensel Phelps Construction Company to design and construct a new Headquarters for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

Timmons Group, as part of the Hensel Phelps Design-Build Team, will provide civil engineering services for the $370 million DISA headquarters at Fort Meade, Maryland.  The Team also includes RTKL Associates as the lead architect, MC Dean as the design-build electrical and IT contractor and Southland Industries as the design-build mechanical contractor.

DISA is primarily a combat support agency for the Department of Defense providing information technology support.  DISA designs, builds and maintains the Federal government’s Global Information Grid.  DISA also supports connectivity and communications for the White House, Joint Chiefs of Staff and other organizations related to national security.  The new facility will consolidate operations and research which are presently divided between three separate facilities in Northern Virginia as part of the Federal Base Relocation and Closure (BRAC) initiative.  The new DISA headquarters will include over a million square feet of administrative, IT lab and warehouse space.  It will be constructed over the east portion of the Fort Meade Golf Course.

Timmons Group will provide survey, civil design, permitting, landscape architecture and construction administration services for the project which includes:

  • Over a million square feet of building space over a 70-acre site
  • Parking for 2,990 vehicles
  • Extensive stormwater management for compliance with the Maryland Department of the Environment
  • Over 3,000 feet of sanitary sewer relocations
  • Over 3,000 feet of road widening
  • A new signalized interchange
