April 12, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Timmons Group GIS Projects Selected as Finalists for 2007 Intergovernmental Solutions Awards Richmond, VA – April 12, 2007 – Timmons Group, a leader in geospatial and engineering consulting services, has had two of its GIS projects named as finalists for The American Council for Technology’s (ACT) 2007 Intergovernmental Solutions Awards. Winners from federal, state and local government will be selected and announced at an awards presentation on Monday, June 4 at the “27th Annual Management of Change Conference” in Richmond, Virginia. The Timmons Group projects selected include the Integrated Forest Information Resource System (IFRIS) developed for the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF) and Virginia’s Performance Accountability System developed for the Council on Virginia’s Future (COVF). These projects exhibited the outstanding progress being made at all levels of government through the innovative use of technology enabling more efficient and effective business processes. The finalists were selected by a committee of government and industry IT professionals based on technology leadership, intergovernmental collaboration, business transformation, impact and results and availability and transferability. “We are proud to help our clients achieve their vision. It holds true to Timmons Group’s mission of achieving our client’s vision through our knowledge and expertise,” said Lowell Ballard, Group Leader for Timmons Group’s Advanced Technology and Applied Development Group. IFRIS is used to more efficiently and accurately manage more than 15 million acres of forest in Virginia. The centralized, web-based, enterprise information system integrates Geospatial technologies to map a time series of forest-management activity and forest-stand conditions. IFRIS allows VDOF personnel to edit an enterprise geospatial database storing spatial features and associated business information in a single repository. The solution is built on ESRI ArcGIS Server, a comprehensive web-based GIS. Timmons Group designed and built the mapping component of the interactive Virginia’s Performance Accountability System website through the utilization of their expertise in Geospatial technology and website design. The website shows how Virginia compares to other states in seven different areas, including: education; government; economy; the environment; public safety; transportation; and health and family.About Timmons Group For more information about Timmons Group’s technology services, contact Lowell Ballard at lowell.ballard@timmons.com or visit http://www.timmons.com/markets-and-services/technology.asp.
