March 6, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For more information contact: Timmons Group Contracts with Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute to Build Spatial Indexing Portal Richmond, VA – March 6, 2007 – Timmons Group, a leader in geospatial and engineering consulting services, today announced that the company’s Technology sector has contracted with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) to architect and build a spatial index engine. The Geographic Indexer will manage a collection of spatial layers and associated feature shapes, and dynamically manage the relationship between them. “FWRI manages and maintains numerous layers of spatial information. Understanding the overlap, both contextually and spatially, is important and not a capability of core GIS applications. Traditionally, spatial data have never been envisioned as part of a bigger, more holistic, system that has both textual (keyword) and spatial overlaps. Providing a simplified interface to search for keywords and understand the spatial overlap between returned results adds a new dimension to both spatial and non-spatial searching. We are excited to work on this project and the ability to extend our existing relationship with FWRI staff,” said George Simpson, Senior Architect for Timmons Group.
