FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Timmons Group’s Lowell Ballard to Present on Service-Oriented Architecture at 2010 MidAmerica GIS Consortium Senior Executive Symposium Richmond, VA – January 29, 2010 –Timmons Group, a leader in geospatial and engineering consulting services, is pleased to announce that Lowell Ballard, Principal and Director of Geospatial Solutions, will be presenting at the 2010 MidAmerica GIS Consortium (MAGIC) Senior Executive Symposium on April 20, 2010 in Kansas City, Missouri. Ballard’s session will be during the “Getting More Out of Your Geospatial Investment” segment of the seminar and will be featuring the subject of service-oriented architecture. Service-oriented architecture is beginning to fundamentally change the way in which enterprises deploy GIS services to support business operations. Historically, IT and GIS departments have held an “application-centric” view of the world. Most budgets have been allocated to the purchase/development, deployment, and maintenance of individual applications. In more recent times, a growing percentage of the budget has been allocated to integration projects in an attempt to deliver broader and more seamless support for business processes. Many of these integration projects fall short of their expectations due to inherent limitation of hardwired integrations and the inability to offer reliable levels of service to clients. Ballard’s presentation will focus on the concepts of a services-based architecture, the business case behind a services approach and implementation approaches. The presentation will also cover the supporting architecture needed and options for leveraging cloud-based services. The MidAmerica GIS Consortium, also known as MAGIC, is a partnership among GIS professionals that exists to present educational opportunities that encourage best practices in geospatial data development and applications. The 2010 Symposium will be held at the Westin Crown Center April 18 - 22, 2010 in Kansas City, Missouri. For more information, visit http://www.magicgis.org.
