Timmons Group GIS Technology Utilized in State Performance Website

Richmond, VA – January 15, 2007 – Timmons Group, a leader in geospatial and engineering consulting services, has been selected to design and build the mapping component of a new interactive Website orchestrated by Virginia Gov. Timothy M Kaine and the Council on Virginia’s Future. The new website shows how Virginia compares to other states in seven different areas, including: education; government; economy; the environment; public safety; transportation; and health and family. Users can review measurable performance targets for various agencies and state institutions as well as obtain demographic profiles at state, regional and local levels.
Timmons Group’s Technology Group had the unique opportunity to help the Council achieve their vision by contributing to the website through the utilization of their expertise in Geographic Information System (GIS) and website design.

“We are pleased with the opportunity to work alongside the Council on this effort. This is a very high profile site for the Commonwealth and is a great platform to show the power of GIS.” said Lowell Ballard, Leader of the Timmons Group’s Advanced Technology and Applied Development Group. “We look forward to working with the Council and Commonwealth on the great ideas they have for expanding the site.”

In an article by the Richmond Times Dispatch, Kaine explained that the site would help assure taxpayers that their tax dollars were being spent wisely and expects that this easy access to this type of information will be beneficial to Virginians and state managers. “This transparency provides our citizens with useful information and encourages our states agencies to remain focused on measurable results,” said the Governor.
